Blue Hand Educentre at Applethwaite Farm, Western Cape is fully functional with a coordinator and two tutors, providing education support to 50 farm workers’ children. The Youth Life-skills Development programme at Grabouw Primary and Secondary School, which benefits all Grade 11 and 12 learners, is flourishing.

On 31 May 2018 an Early Child Literacy Development community centre was opened in Citrusdal, Western Cape, South Africa. Capespan Blue Hand partnered with Safmarine, who donated a cargo container, which was then refurbished with partnership funding provided by Capespan Blue Hand, Breadline Africa, Cool Fresh International of Ridderkerk (The Netherlands) and the Balls-n-Books Foundation. The customised container now houses a mini-library and a multi-purpose classroom for the Smartstart™ Early Child Literacy Development programme.

The 2018 Blue Hand Sport Development programme in the Northern Cape included distribution of full soccer team kits to all of the Capespan Farms’ teams, who competed on Saturday, 22 September 2018 for the Blue Hand Soccer Trophy as well as cash prizes. The tournament took place on the newly developed grass sport fields at Capespan’s Omdraai Valam Farm, co-funded by Waitrose and Capespan Blue Hand.
