From 2008 until 2009 Capespan has reduced the number of days fruit is stored in cold rooms. Cold chain manager Keith Roxburgh said last year South African citrus destined for the UK spent an average of 9,5 days in cold storage until week 33, compared to 6 days this year for the same period. "That's a 36% drop! But, we're trying to lower the number of days even further."
