On the 3rd of February 2010 the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service (USDA department) announced that it had approved 16 new magisterial districts in three South African provinces as 'black spot free'. With this status, citrus produced in these areas is now permitted access to the USA, provided all protocols are correctly followed.

The 2009 South African summer citrus season in the USA got underway with the arrival of the Asian Lily conventional vessel last week at Holt terminal at Gloucester City, NJ. The vessel carried a large quantity of Navels and Clementines which the market was eagerly waiting for. Sales have been rapid during the last few days and stocks will be depleted by the time the second vessel discharges on July 6.
